NHL player Dakota Joshua diagnosed with testicular cancer
In a statement made on Instagram September 17, 2024, Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua announced that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
“This summer, I felt a lump on one of my [testicles] that doctors would later diagnose as testicular cancer. The news was obviously scary to hear, but thankfully doctors were able to successfully remove the tumor. The last several weeks have been extremely challenging and I’ve been fortunate to have the support of my family, friends, teammates, and doctors,” Joshua said in the statement.
The 28-year old went on to emphasize the importance of early detection through regular checks by saying “getting checked by a doctor quickly was the best approach and I encourage men to get checked regularly for testicular cancer.”

The Canucks began their season on October 9, 2024 against the Calgary Flames, where CBS Sports reported that Joshua did, in fact, travel with the team and would potentially begin skating again on the four-game trip.
