Athlete Sebastien Haller and PUMA Raise Awareness for Testicular Cancer
A huge thank you to PUMA and Sebastien Haller for raising awareness around testicular cancer during the month of April - Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.
Sebastien Haller is a French-Ivorian soccer player and was diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after joining Dortmund from Ajax in July of 2022. He was 28 years old and underwent two surgeries and chemotherapy before returning to play with his team in January of 2023. He is now back in action, doing what he does best and making it a goal to raise awareness around testicular cancer.
Last month he raised awareness of testicular cancer by having PUMA customize his shoes to say, “CHECK YOUR 🥜” along with “TESTICULAR CANCER AWARENESS MONTH”. His message really emphasizes the importance of regular checkups to prevent others from experiences and diagnoses like his.
"We need to check. You cannot be ashamed. We are not checking only for ourselves but also for our family and friends and those around us. It can save a lot of lives," said Sebastien Haller in an interview with BBC.
Sebastien along with three other Bundesliga players have experienced similar paths this last year - Timo Baumgartl, Hertha Berlin, and Jean-Paul Boetius. Thankfully all four players have had happy endings and have made it a point to increase the awareness of testicular cancer using their reach on social media. "You think you're indestructible until you get a shock diagnosis such as this," said the Hertha No.23. "We have a huge reach as footballers and it's such a small test. You go to the doctor and it feels it only takes three minutes."
Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation thanks each one of these men for sharing their story and to PUMA for helping to raise awareness around testicular cancer.
